One of the topics that was raised was Gloria Anzaldúa's “La Frontera/The Borderlands” and it's impact on Chican@ literature; this in turn got me thinking about the border between Cuba and the US. Gloria Anzalúda's Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza was one of the books that I briefly spoke about during my presentation in class this past Monday. This week, I read Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza by Gloria Anzaldúa. In Borderlands- La frontera: The new Mestiza, Gloria Anzaldua tries to explain the “New Mestiza” by putting herself under the microscope as well as her language and her land. Gloria Anzaldua's book, Borderland/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, deals with the concept of a “borderland” as both a physical place located at the U.S./Mexico border, and as a spiritual divide. In Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, Gloria Anzaldúa boldly claims an identity inherently composed of the intersecting elements of Chicana culture, internalizing the complexities of the US-Mexico borderland.
